CWGS has achieved the milestone of being Carbon Negative by absolutely changing carbon emission lifestyle and adopting alternatives. We are committed to remain carbon negative in future as well.
We have taken the following steps in reducing carbon footprints at Work
Adopting a Paperless Culture
Since it was a tough decision to implement paperless policy and making sure employees are well aware of it. But we developed this culture by building necessary infrastructure to store requisite documents in email, cloud storage and adopting digital signing for every possible task. It reduced are dependency on printing papers. But initially it all started with taking small but essential steps. We penetrated the habit of using waste papers/ back side of the papers for printing and this gradually becomes the culture of our workplace.
Avoiding Single Use Coffee/Tea Cups, Glasses, Plates etc.
We understand offering free coffee or tea to the guest in the office meetings or employees is one of the most appreciated gesture and perks for the employees but it comes with Carbon Dioxide Emissions. The same goes for single use glasses, plates. We decided to use the cups, utensils which can be reused and this can too helps us to prevent CO2 emissions.
Using Rechargeable Batteries
Just like single use coffee/tea cups, even single use batteries are too gradually responsible for carbon emissions in the environment. We started a clear cut policy of using rechargeable batteries even for smallest appliances such as AC remote, projector, calculators, fire alarms etc. This is one of the most important and effective step in achieving the milestone of carbon negative.
Substituting Water Bottles with a Tap Filter at Workplace
Earlier we used to plastic water bottles for drinking water and these plastic water bottles after use, used to contribute in carbon emission in the environment. There was no facility of recycling available at our workplace, so we decided to switch into Tap Filter machine in office for drinking water and we encouraged our people at workplace to bring water bottles from their household and refill with tap filter machine in office.
Promoting Greener Commutes
People commuting to the workplace adds up to your business’ carbon emissions—and, actually, it adds up a lot. From encouraging public transport and carpooling to offering incentives that reduce the costs of public transportation, buying or using electric vehicles, helped us to promote a greener commute.
Green Appliances
We always keep in mind the energy star rating while buying or replacing any office appliance. Using LED light bulbs and also maximizing the culture of using natural light besides developing the part of working lifestyle to switch off the lights when not being used.
Flying in Economy Class and Choosing low emission airlines during Business Travel
An easy—as well as cost-effective—way to reduce this type of carbon emissions is to encourage employees to fly economy class. Considering most business trips are domestic or short- to medium-distance, this swap shouldn’t have a major impact on the overall business trip. Not all airlines generate the same amount of carbon emissions, even when flying the same route. Considering the high amount of CO2 generated by flying, when air travel is necessary, we still have a choice to reduce our carbon footprint.
A great way to put this into practice is to identify which airlines serve the routes your employees usually fly and create a list of the most carbon-friendly ones.
